 Hello again and welcome to the first post of 2023.  Let me first wish everyone a Happy New Year - rather belated, but sincere. Let's hope it is a better one than 2022, 21 and 20. As I write this article, just over a week into the month of February, there has been so much in the news - and here I mean the mainstream media that the unawake rely on for their information - to give people a nudge into being prepared and becoming preppers. A lot of what's being reported on is fact, but there is a lot of speculation and what can only be described as "fear porn" too.  It helps the governments of the world and the powers that be in general to keep the global population fearful. The theory being that if we are scared and relying on THEM to protect us, we will give up certain rights and freedoms that we have had for centuries, in exchange for perceived safety. We are constantly being bombarded with news about the Ukraine war - which is nearing it's one year anniversary (24t...

 I'll start off with a disclaimer. I am not a security expert. The information that I am passing on here has been gleaned from a number of places - on-line, books, anecdotal and personal experience. I suggest that you do your own research and draw your own conclusions as to what will work best for you, your family and the location and layout of your property - and of course how much money you want to throw at such a project. Although, further into this article, I mention the use of weapons for home defence, I do not advocate the use of violence or the use of weapons under normal circumstances. “Everyone is justified in using, in the defence of himself or another, such force as, in the circumstances as he believes them to be, it is reasonable to use.” (Section 48 of the NZ Crimes Act 1961).  According to a government website, there are up to 55 companies in New Zealand engaged in the production of pharmaceuticals or their ingredients. The high cost of developing and bringing a drug to market, compounded by the scarcity of capital in NZ, has led to the industry sector being in a stagnant state, and declining over the long term.  The majority of drugs used by the New Zealand public come from China, India or the USA, plus a few other minor players. We are currently living in a time of global unrest due to a number of factors including a global recession, high inflation, shortage of resources across food, fuel, manufacturing, and shipping, political unrest in many countries and between superpowers, the threat of a nuclear war and the long-term effects, both on health and the economy, of the covid-19 pandemic response.  Any of these factors becoming critical could mean that the pharmaceutical medications on which so many of us rely may no longer be shipped to New...

 In these modern times with globalization and last minute delivery systems we could be heading toward a global famine. The Chinese container ship that blocked up the Suez Canal for weeks demonstrated how fragile the Global Supply Chain is. Add to this the "war" between Russia and Ukraine which means that much of the produce which would have gone to the worlds markets is missing this year, and because there has been very little planted this year, there will be even less next year.  Russia is the world's biggest exporter of fertilizer. Ukraine produces about 50% of the worlds sunflower oil and between the two countries they produce about 20% of the world's grain supply. China, India and a handful of other nations have stopped export of a number of food products, predominantly grains. This is bad enough in itself, but now the governments and the WEF are attacking the farmers. Were we not always told "never bite the hand that feeds?".....and yet Farmers are bein...

 I don't mean to add to your worries and push the fear level up a notch but, THE NEED TO STOCK UP IS MORE URGENT THAN EVER. I recently watched a presentation by Nicole Foss about the current global situation. This episode - the first of a number of presentations she will give - concerns finance and the fragility and ultimate collapse of the system we all depend on....and the consequences of such a collapse. So who is Nicole Foss? According to a recent post on the Voices for Freedom website - Nicole Foss is a futurist, working on big picture issues and how they interact to form a whole.  Issues of primary concern include global finance, energy, environment, psychology, health and disease, and geopolitics.  Her written work can be found at Applied Systems Thinking (foss.blog).  Nicole is a writer, researcher, and an international speaker, notably on energy and global finance, lecturing in hundreds of locations across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand....

 You've probably all heard of the terms bugging out and bugging in. In other words staying put where you are, or alternatively, leaving and going to a secondary location. My own take on whether to bug out or bug in is that where ever possible I will bug in. My home and garden can provide me with food, water, shelter, warmth, light, security and all the creature comforts I am used to. In a SHTF event I would rather shelter in place with all these benefits, than leave and try to survive in the bush. Obviously if you have a secure location to bug out to, that can offer you a safer and better stocked place to ride out the event - whatever it may be - then bugging out, in this case, would be a good option. Although my preference is to bug in, I still have a bug out bag, just in case I do have to "get out of dodge" due to circumstances beyond my control. At our last Prepper Group meeting, we went through my Bug Out Bag to critique what I had included and what I had missed out. ...
